Public relations practitioners I believe do very well with modern communication tools. While I do think traditional tools can be useful, modern tools are more effective.

Modern tools include social media and social media is the biggest platform for publicity. It is also much quicker to deliver and receive information. Traditional tools (such as newspapers) take longer to get the information out there.

While traditional did serve its purpose in it’s time, the world is moving forward and for PR practitioners, it is better to use modern tools.

The relationship between PR practitioners and the media should always be positive. PR practitioners want the media to report good things on their clients and the media wants to be able to obtain the information whenever they need to.

The media gets their information from PR practitioners, so it is important that the practitioner trusts that media outlet with their clients information.

PR practitioners want their clients to be in the media, and not in a disastrous way. It is also important for them to be on good terms for the client. The client would be unhappy with their representation if their publicist is not keeping a good relationship with the media. It works well if everyone is on good terms with each other.

“Communication is power”

Everything in our world revolves around communication. Communicating is important in so many different aspects of life. From romantic relationships to professional relationships, one must know how to communicate in an effective way. Anytime there is no communication, the relationship or task at hand fails. By interacting with others correctly, tasks and relationships flourish.

What makes information newsworthy?

There are eight categories that make information newsworthy. Timeliness, prominence, proximity, significance, unusualness, human interest, conflict and newness. (Wilcox, D. L. & Reber, B. H. (2016). Public relations writing and media techniques. London, U.K.: Pearson.) Anything that could fall under one of those categories would be considered newsworthy.

Personally, I do think pop culture information should be classified as news. Those topics fall under human interest, conflict and newness. Most of the time, the news is conflict and newness. For human interest there are a lot of people that through social media, feel connected to celebrities. When things happen to those celebrities it becomes human interest for the viewer.

A little about me!

Hello everyone!

My name is Carroll Ann Coyle. I study public relations at Georgia Southern. I am a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. I’m 19 years old and live with my four best friends. I am from the metro Atlanta area. I enjoy spending time with my friends, online shopping and trying new restaurants.

I am studying public relations because I enjoy communicating, social media and planning events. When I was an incoming freshman, I had no idea what I wanted to do and my SOAR leader was a public relations major. Her and I clicked really well and she told me more about what public relations entails. It all interested me so I decided to go for it. After taking my first couple public relations and journalism classes, I knew that I had made the right choice.

The student organization I am representing is Greek Ambassador’s. Greek Ambassador’s plans event for not only greek life, but also other organizations on Georgia Southern’s campus. I’m excited to work with them!
